THE BEST GINGERBREAD COOKIES
This classic cut-out gingerbread cookie recipe is easy to make, perfect for decorating, and always so delicious.
INGREDIENTS:
GINGERBREAD COOKIES RECIPE:
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground ginger
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup unsulfured molasses
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
(optional) zest of one small orange
optional toppings: simple icing (see below), red hots, sprinkles, etc.
SIMPLE ICING RECIPE:
2 cups powdered sugar
2-3 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS:
TO MAKE THE GINGERBREAD COOKIES:
1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, salt and nutmeg. Set aside.
